James Wesley Marsters (* August 20 1962 in Greenville , California ) is an American actor and musician . He became famous for the role of the platinum blond vampire Spike on the television series Buffy – The Vampire Slayer . He also starred in the final season of Angel – The Vampire Slayer with a role in just called.He grew up with his brother Paul and his sister Susan in Modesto on, was married to actress Liane Davidson and has been divorced a few years back.
